I'm no dog trainer, but hey, it works!

I've read about the difficulties of training a chinese crested dog, but I think the difficulties applies to dogs & puppies in general. The first thing I had to accept is that my dog will have accidents, my goal is to minimize it and eventually have no accidents all together. I don't think you have to hire a dog trainer to train your dog because the training starts with you.

I've used the methods below & with patience and consistency, they worked.. eventually. And I became my own dog trainer! Now, before I begin dog training, I had to:

  1. Make sure that I had the right supplies to make dog training as smooth as possible.
  2. Create a schedule or there will be an accident.

The Pet Supplies

The Walking Schedule

  • As soon as he wakes up in the morning.
  • Mid day stroll
  • Before going to bed or you will wake up to a puddle on the floor.

Dog trainer by day!

Dog wakes up, I take him for a 15 min. walk. H e usually does all his business within that time but of course each dog and each day vary.

Mid day, your dog should get another walk, but most people have jobs and this is just not possible. This is where the dog door comes in. Section off an area for your dog with acces to the dog door so that he can come and go as he pleases while you are at work.

I've also read about the option of putting your dog in a dog crate while you are away. Because dogs don't usually do business where they sleep, they will hold it for as long as they can until they are out of the dog crate. I would only use this option if a dog door is not available & I am gone for less than an hour. Otherwise, that's just cruel!
